Tired of Searching for the Perfect Lawn Fertilization Program?

How often should you fertilize? When?

What type of fertilizer do you need?

Every spring, home and garden stores are full of folks trying to answer these same questions.

Unfortunately, fertilizing your own lawn requires specialized equipment as well as specific knowledge of your lawn’s pH level and grass type (or types.) If you don’t have a specialized spreader or pH kit handy, you might want to join the thousands of Michiganders who use professional lawn care every year.

Your search ends here! We have a lawn fertilization program that will fit your needs. Try an early fertilization, crabgrass treatment, and aeration in March or April, and mid-summer fertilizer in July or August.

Whatever you need to keep your lawn healthy and fertilized, Ever So Green can provide it. Our team has been serving the Livingston County area for over twenty years. We are licensed and insured with certified and licensed technicians.

Spend More Time Enjoying Your Lawn This Summer

Does your lawn have crabgrass?

Crabgrass creeps across your lawn in wide-leafed clumps that grow parallel to the ground. It is a pest to an otherwise nice lawn. Crabgrass appears in the lawn from last year’s crabgrass seeds. The best bet to preventing crabgrass is to treat the seedlings before they appear.

Are you dealing with broadleaf weeds?

Typical broadleaf weeds are dandelion, thistle and plantain. These weeds can easily overrun an otherwise lush lawn. Twice yearly treatments can keep broadleaf weeds at bay.

Does your lawn get a lot of use?

If your lawn gets a lot of use (kids and pets, etc.) your lawn is likely very compacted and in need of aeration. Compacted soil restricts the flow of air, nutrients, and water to your grass. Aeration loosens the compacted soil, allowing for maximum growth and creating a healthier lawn.

Spring Cleaning Checklist for Your Lawn

Spring is almost here, which means more time outdoors enjoying cookouts, games and other fair-weather activities.

But before you can revel in all your yard has to offer this season, it’ll need to be whipped into shape after the dormant winter months.

Here’s our spring lawn care checklist:

1. Tune up your lawn mower: After sitting idle in your garage or toolshed all winter, your mower will need a little TLC. Check the spark plug, clean, or replace the air filter, change the oil and get the blade sharpened.

2. Clean up debris: In the spring, your yard will be host to fallen leaves, sticks, twigs, and other debris. If not removed, this layer of plant scraps can smother your lawn and leave unsightly dead patches. Clearing this refuse also makes way for more effective herbicide and fertilizer treatments.

Wait Until Late Spring to Fertilize

If you’ve lived in Michigan for years, you know how rough winter weather can be on your lawn. Months of freezing cold and snow can take a toll on your previously green lawn.

When spring has sprung, make sure you’re prepared with our spring lawn care prep tips:

Clean: When the snow melts, pick up any fallen branches and leftover leaves on your lawn and in flower beds. Rake to give your lawn a lift after the cold weather. This will help promote new growth.

Lastly, hire a professional lawn fertilization company to take care of your Howell home! Over time, lawns tend to leech nutrients, leaving them deficient. For thicker, greener grass, your lawn needs the right nutrition, and that can be hard to manage on your own.

Hiring a professional company to fertilize is the best option because not only do they know the right type of fertilizer to best feed your lawn, but they’ll manage the proper timing and application that can be hard for the average homeowner to achieve.

Ever So Green Can Help You Achieve Thicker, Greener Grass

Other lawn fertilization companies in Howell may just recommend a product and leave you to do the application on your own, or do a “one and done” job that doesn’t give you lasting results. We’re different!

We create a lawn care program customized especially for your lawn that will give you a green lawn that lasts.

How to Winterize Your Lawn and Gardening Gear for a Storm

Winterizing your yard and garden doesn’t stop with the plants.

You’ll also need to bring your gear indoors for storms or freezing weather.

Make sure you remember the following garden and yard gear needs to come indoors to protect them through the winter:

  • Hoses must be drained, disconnected, and put in the garage for winter storage, or water inside can expand and burst the hose or the pipe leading outdoors. Don’t use that spigot until the weather has completely warmed up and any ice has the chance to melt!

  • Bring in all gardening gear so it doesn’t rust over the winter (and you don’t lose it in the snow!)

  • If you’re expecting a big winter storm, bring in all lawn furniture, unsecured trash cans, and buckets or toys. These can blow around in a storm.

  • Do you have any leaf piles remaining? Remember to dispose of them before a freeze. Leaf piles that get wet can freeze to the ground, leaving this project for spring if you forget!

Tips to Prepare Your Garden and Yard for a Winter Storm

Your house is ready for a winter storm, but what about your grounds and garden?

If you have a beautiful new garden or trees planted around your yard, there are some things you can do to protect them from extreme weather.

  • Trim dead sections off any unruly fall plants. Make sure you look up the specific species of plant to see if it prefers a fall pruning like roses do, or if you should leave it alone to protect it from freezing.

  • Mulch around garden beds and sensitive plants several inches deep at a minimum. This can help prevent roots of perennial plants from freezing, which ensures they regrow in the spring. Check out which plants you have in your garden that are “frost-hardy” and the minimum temperatures they can tolerate. The plants that prefer higher temperatures need at least a few inches of mulch.

  • If you have temperature-sensitive trees in your yard, wrap them in a burlap with staking underneath to prevent the wrap from touching foliage. This protects them from the wind and extreme freezes.
